Welcome Back

August 15th, 2008

I hope that everyone had a great summer and that the transition to yet another school year has started smoothly.  If anyone is interested in helping with light groundskeeping at the school, please respond on the blog or to my cell phone.  Generally, we’ll try to have someone at the school on Saturday mornings, though there will frequently be someone cutting or trimming on weekday evenings.  I believe that the students can get some (not all) amount of service hours credit for their efforts, though you should check on that.

There will possible be a larger and organized work day later in the fall, but until then, the work will be casual and more of “drop in if you can” basis.

Punching holes

July 8th, 2008

If anyone has some time on Saturday morning, we will be catching up on the school’s landscaping on Saturday morning.  We will be aerifying the soccer field and flagpole circle.  We will also put out fertilizer and perform some maintenance tasks.  No equipment is needed.  Gates open at 8 AM.

Also, a Toro lawnmower was recently donated to the school.  However, though the engine is in good working condition and the mower’s body and frame are in excellent shape, the cutting blade does not turn.  If anyone has expertise in small engine repair and can take a look at the mower, please let me know.

Equipment

If anybody has garden equipment that can be donated to the school, please let me know.  We can use shovels, rakes,  shop tools, etc.  Also, if anyone has expertise in working on mowers, blowers, edgers, or string trimmers, let me know.

Donovan Green

May 22nd, 2008

Thanks for visiting Donovan Green, the MDCHS Grounds Committee website.  We are eager to establish a system that will allow school supporters to lend their time and talent to the school in an informal format.  The MDCHS homepage contains a links to Donovan Green, which will link readers to a few web pages to accomplish this goal.

  • Donovan Green Blog-This blog will be updated at least weekly during the summer and monthly during the school year, and will address several issues.  The blog will serve as a format to request services (e.g., who can help build a fence, who can help aerate), ask for advice (e.g., who knows anything about…), or solicit help in obtaining materials (e.g., can anyone get us a deal on azalea bushes?).  It will also serve as a bulletin board where volunteers can let the committee know when they are going to be able lend a hand.  In addition, suggestions can be posted here.

  • Donovan Green Calendar-This calendar will be a quick link for volunteers to check on when work is being done at the school.  It is anticipated that committee members will be at the school occasionally on weekday evenings and on most Saturday mornings during the summer.

  • Contact numbers-This page will contain e-mail addresses and cell phone numbers of the grounds committee members.
