Emphasis is given to developing the skills needed to read and analyze Latin literature. This course focuses on an Introduction to Greek and Roman culture, basic vocabulary, and grammar.
Latin II

This course is designed to reinforce knowledge of the Latin language learned in Latin I. Students learn more advanced vocabulary and grammatical concepts. Through continued, graded readings students are introduced to more cultural, historical, political, geographic and religious aspects of the Roman world. This course is augmented with primary and secondary sources that expand on the textbook’s cultural information.
Latin III Honors

This course is designed to help refine the student’s grasp of the Latin language through readings from he great Latin authors, such as Cicero, Caesar, Pliny, Vergil, Ovid, and others.. Students will examine pertinent scholarship and literary criticism. In addition to the continued study of grammar and vocabulary, emphasis is given to placing the text within its historical context.
AP Latin Vergil

This course focuses on the Aeneid of Vergil. Students will translate, analyze, and interpret the content of the AP syllabus. Latin literature, Augustine history, Olympian gods, aspects of roman life will be an essential feature of this course. The AP exam is required in May.
Spanish I
9th grade | full year | 1 credit
This class is an introduction to the linguistic and cultural structures necessary for communication in Spanish. Emphasis will be placed on acquiring vocabulary and conversational skills as well as cultural and historical information on Spanish speaking countries. Students of Spanish 1 are expected to develop the four language skills of speaking, listening, basic reading and writing as well as an appreciation of Latino culture. No prior experience with Spanish required.
Spanish II
9th - 10th grades | full year | 1 credit
Review of the fundamentals of Spanish with intensive work on vocabulary building and more advanced grammatical structures. More advanced practice in the use of the spoken language, writing skills and cultural components. Speaking the language is greatly stressed at this level as this course focuses on the development of oral fluency and vocabulary. This class is open to those who have successfully completed Spanish I at the high school level or equivalent in middle school as well as heritage speakers, upon consent of the instructor.
Spanish III
11th grade | full year | 1 credit
This course is designed to develop advanced reading, writing and verbal skills in the Spanish language. Linguistic and thematic analysis of texts, compositions and independent reading of authentic texts are emphasized. Students at this level will be expected to converse and discuss topics in Spanish. This class is open to those having successfully completed Spanish II or the equivalent as well as heritage speaker on the recommendation of the instructor.
Spanish IV
12th grade | full year | 1 credit
Intensive practice reading and writing Spanish through a variety of selected short stories, poetry and plays. This course also examines the customs and culture of the Spanish-speaking world. We review of advanced structure, syntax, and grammar through compositions and reading of authentic literature. This course develops oral proficiency through a discussion of contemporary issues in the Hispanic world. Special attention is paid to fluency in spontaneous situations. Students will improve their ability to communicate orally in Spanish at an advanced level, a process during which they will also acquire a better command of the fundamental aspects of syntax, grammar, and vocabulary through individual and group activities. This course is conducted entirely in Spanish.
