Honor Council

The Honor Council is a collection of students who, based on their moral character, are nominated by faculty members to serve on this student committee. The purpose of the committee is to meet with students who have committed Honor Code offenses and recommend to Discipline Committee if it should and how it should discipline a particular student based upon the merit of a particular offense.

Math Team

The MDCHS Math Team participates in various contests and competitions throughout the academic year. The members of the Math Team meet weekly in order to practice solving problems.

National Honor Society (NHS)

The National Honor Society is comprised of a group of students who possess strong character, maintain a 90% average in academics, demonstrate leadership skills, practice stewardship toward their community, and work for the advancement of the school. Students are invited to apply for membership in NHS when they achieve a cumulative GPA of 90%. National Honor Society members engage in volunteer work to improve their school and community through various activities.

One Act

The One-Act Play group at Donovan allows students to participate in a theater production. Whether it is behind the scenes, making costumes, or acting in the limelight, this is an excellent opportunity for both the novice and experienced theater lover. Play practice is held daily after school for approximately eight weeks prior to the play. Students in fall semester are able to compete in the regional play competition and see performances by students from other schools. Our One-Act Play puts on fabulous shows and has a history or excellence. In the 2006-2007 school year, Donovan won at the regional level and advanced to state.

Science Olympiad

A nationally recognized competition where teams of students compete with other high school students from Georgia and around the nation demonstrating their scientific knowledge. Competitive areas include chemistry, physics, epidemiology, biochemistry, marine biology, experimental design and food science.

Shofar

Donovan's student publication is published quarterly. Each issue contains student writing on a variety of topics, all related to the central theme of the issue. Past themes have included: Causes, Memory, and Technology.

Spring Literary

Every year in March, MDCHS sends a group of students to participate in the Region Spring Literary Competition. This is an exciting opportunity for students to use their talents in writing, drama, and music to represent our school. Students representing MDCHS will be scored by judges, and in some cases, an audience is present (drama/music). The top two students/groups from each event in Region will advance to the State Competition, which is held in Valdosta.

St. Cecilia Society

The St. Cecilia Society is a choral group which practices once a week in preparation for different events scheduled throughout the year. This group mainly focuses on singing songs during mass, but other performances include Christmas concerts, Open House, Graduation, and other community events.

Student Council

The MDCHS student council is an annually elected group of students that represents the needs and concerns of the student body. Along with faculty sponsors, the student council hosts several fun events for students, raises money for each class, and strives to make MDCHS a great place for students.

Yearbook

The yearbook is a club that allows students who are interested in journalism, photography, or media to get real life experience in putting together an annual publication. Student ideas and creativity are used to create a visual representation of an entire academic year.
