2015 Fall Sports Wrap-up and Winter Sports Preview

November 9, 2015

The school year got off to rough start in athletics with some tough losses for the football team. After a strong showing against Dawson Street, the Rams finished the year with hard-fought losses. At the end of the season, the Rams traveled to the beautiful St. Simmon Island for a game against Frederica Academy. Although the trip ended with a loss on the grid iron, the trip was very successful. Despite an 0-10 campaign, our beloved Rams football team enjoyed some success. AJ Stokes, Alize Brown, Israel Ramos, and Tae Clay were all named to the GISA Region 4AA Team. Congrats to them! Furthermore, Coach Cooper is very optimistic about the future of the program.

In Volleyball, the Girls finished the regular season as the third seed out of their region. Although the girls fought hard, they came up short to Grace Christian in the first round of the State AA Tournament in Newnan. The Girls finished the season with a winning record after losing four of their first five matches to start the season. Seniors Rachel Krunkosky, Jenna Bradbury, and Sarah Quinlan were named to the All-Region team. The future is bright for Rams Volleyball as their core of Juniors and Sophmores is solid, and the return of the two Freshman hitters makes for an exciting volleyball season in the Fall of 2016.

Cross Country had an interesting start to the season, but came on strong late towards then end of October with strong showings at the Region 4AA meet at Brentwood and the GISA State Meet in Albany on Halloween. The Rams placed 3rd in Girls but could not qualifiy for state as they were one runner short of the required numbers to have a team at State. Paxton McCullough and Maddie McAuley (the veterens on the team) ran personal bests, and qualified for state as individual runners. Paxton was named to the All-Region Team. At States, the two girls finished their careers with their fastest times ever in three years as Cross Country runners. Congrats to them, Coach Ellison, and the rest of the Cross Country team on a surpisingly successful season!

Cheerleading has been awesome this year. Hats off to the Rams Cheer squad for their support and energy on the sidelines this fall, and we look forward to more in the seasons to come. Go Rams!

Coach Fowler and his Ram Swimmers are eager to ‘swim past’ their competition this season. Although there are a number of new swimmers, Coach Fowler is optimistic about this season due to the amount of returnees from last year’s team including Senior Carl Terms (who is a phenomenal athlete). Come out and support the Ram swimmers.

Coaches Terrell Bell, Dodd Rentz, Chris Moore, Matt Daniels, and Tony Ellison bring a wealth of experience to the table as the Boy’s and Girl’s basketball season is right around the corner. The girls’, despite their numbers, bring back as strong core from last year ‘s state runner-up campaign, while the boy’s have had to reload. The basketball season kicks off thisThursday, November 12 at home versus Holy Spirit Prep. Go Rams!
